For starters, here's a pretty decent map of the island.
Cinnamon Bay Beach, where we stayed. We highly recommend it - here is a link to their official site.
A shot of our cottage. Can sleep 6!
Good shot of our beach near sundown. Here is Maria enjoying a solitary walk, and here a beach book.
Someone built this cool little lean-to at Cinnamon Bay.
Had a couple days of rough seas at Cinnamon Bay. So rough in fact, that a handful of surfer dudes did their thing. Not to be outdone, I of course had to join them.
Wherever there is a lifeguard chair, there will be a dork who climbs up into it to pose for photographs...
We befriended a cat named Funny Face (we named her this cuz she's the only crosseyed cat in the world). Another cool cat we met along the way was named Taco. He lives at Island Blues.
Attack of the marauding donkeys. Wild donkeys roam free all over the island, especially around Cinnamon Bay. There were signs everywhere warning us not to pet them!! This little fella here is particularly cute.
Goats were wandering all over the place too, as well as these wittle wizards. In the woods there were lots of these Golden Orb Spiders.
We tried to do some educational stuff as well. We visited some sugar mill ruins which were very, um, sweet. Note the cool smokestack doohicky, and this doorway.
Tons of hiking trails on St John. Check out this gigantic aloe plant we found en route to Ram's Head. We kept waiting to hear "Feeeeeed me Seymour!" Here's a shot from the Cinnamon Trail. Note that all hardcore adventurers eat baguettes and wear Apple Computer shirts on their expeditions.
Some fantastic restaurants on St John, from swanky to haute couture. Of course we had to take dorky photos at every one we visited. Here is ShipWreck Landing, a post-beach outdoor bar/grill. This is Vie's Snack Shack, which was good for curried goat, sandwiches, and stuff like that. Here we are at a Mexican joint in Cruz Bay called Margeritas. Just don't get the nachos there - yucky and expensive. But Maria seems to be enjoying her (hic!) margerita. This little roadside smoothie truck had some yummy drinks and wrap sandwiches. Island Blues was also a great little evening eatery (thanks Jack Warner for the recommendation). Miss Lucy's Restaurant was as great as it's reputation. We had a nice Sunday Brunch there, with live music and a spectacular view. We were lucky enough to catch the end of the Giants game at Skinny Legs, another funky outdoor bar/grill. Banana Deck was also a nice night-spot to dine outdoors. For drinkin' and dancin', we had a blast at Duffy's Love Shack . Be sure to order the drink called the Shark Tank (the blue concoction on the table with the dorky plastic shark sticking out). They actually play the JAWS theme music everytime this drink is ordered. Here's a closer look at the shark , which actually contains a shot! Needless to say, it was a long night. But overall the best bang for the buck seemed to be Cruz Bay's Morgan's Mango . A bit touristy, but the food was consistently good.
Renting a jeep is essential while on St John. You need the 4WD for some of those crazy winding roads. We went through Conrad Sutton for the jeep - here is a link to their site.
Ahh, that's better.
No folks, that's not a swimming pool. That's Jumbie Beach, one or our new favorite places on the planet. This little secluded nook was a great spot to chill.
Here's Maria enjoying the view from Salomon Beach. This beach, while lovely, wasn't the one we were looking for. We accidentally stopped here while searching for Honeymoon Beach (which we didn't find, unfortunately). As it turns out, Solomon is a nudie beach! Sorry, no photos ;-)
Isn't this cool? We can't take credit for this though - we just happened upon it.
Trunk Bay ... No, that's not a postcard!
Maria and Coral Bay . The water is just so painfully clear .
Somebody really went all out with the Christmas decorations. Move over Chevy Chase!
We found time to stop by the Jack Warner estates and take a quick tour of Casa Don Juan, near Coral Bay. Great spot!
Coming home was agonizing. But there was someone who really missed Maria while we were away...
This pretty much sums up the time we had on St John. Awwwwwwww!
