Block Island, September 2003

Took some great shots out at the Block. Click on a thumbnail to enlarge a photograph:

Here is the B&B where we stayed, The Island Home. It's a great spot -- not in the middle of
town but within biking/walking distance. You can stay in the main house (first picture), or
there are some small suites for rent in the back. The patio area served nicely as a place to hold
our little engagement pizza party (fourth pic). Most importantly, it's a dog-friendly inn!

Some shots of the beach, of course:

BI beaches in September are fantastic. The water is warm and crystal clear. This year
we lucked out in that Hurricane Isabel had churned up some fantastic surf. Jeremy and I
were happy to take advantage (first row). The other great thing about September -- the
weather is usually as gorgeous as it is in August, minus the crowds.

*A note on the shark chasing Jeremy... it's fake! Click here. We found a rock on Ballard's Beach
that looked exactly like a dorsal fin! So of course we had to ham it up as much as possible.

The livestock at Manisses Farm. It beats the hell out of the petting zoo at Stew Leonards.
All kinds of unusual critters roam free -- cattle, a dromedary camel (third pic), Emus (fourth),
black swans, three-horned goats, and even a Scottish Highland Bison named Mr. McDuff
(bottom row,third pic).

Here are some random shots taken around the island. All told, it was an excellent vaykay.
With the exception of "Isabel Eve", the weather was perfect. When we weren't lounging
on the beach with our novels or getting bashed by waves, we were stuffing our faces
at a restaurant, biking around and exploring the island, or having a belly-laugh
(usually at my expense, of course).

I should explain some of these shots:
*First Row, second pic: What vacation would be complete without the patented "hold the camera at arm's
length" shot. Hey it wasn't my idea...
*Second Row, third pic: Maria having a quiet moment at the North Light. Litte does she know that 5 minutes
later she would be engaged woohoo!
*Third Row, fourth pic: These doleful doggies spent a few days at the Island Home. Unfortunately their
owners locked them up before going out for the evening. The shot was too cute to resist.
*Fourth Row, first pic: The morning of Isabel I went exploring out at Mohegan Bluffs. The waves were
unbelievable. Needless to say there were no swimmers that day.

*Mike and Barb Sears were on the island celebrating their 25th anniversary!
